Well, it’s not everyday that you can say you’ve been whacked on the head by a grasshopper!

The end of June and it had been another hot day. We were all chilling out on the terrace, quietly chatting while the sun went down, when it happened. I suddenly felt as though somebody had punched me on my left ear! I leaped out of my chair shouting, “ARGH!”. Now leaping out of my chair is no mean feat as I’m disabled, but the adrenalin shot me clean into the air! We all looked around for the culprit, hoping to goodness that it wasn’t one of my arch nemesis – a spider! Then Pam spotted it on the mosquito netting around our terrace. PHEW, it was only a grasshopper! Now, we know how high and far they can jump, but who would’ve thought they could give such a thump if you dare to get in their way!
And that’s not the first time. The other day Pam was sitting quietly, minding her own business, when she got wacked on the forehead by a cicadas!
Then a couple of weeks ago I rushed (as fast as I can rush!) out of the house when Pam came running up the drive squealing like a little girl (her words not mine!). Turns out she had nearly stepped on a snake, which made her jump out of her skin, then go running up to her house to get the camera! Thankfully, it was only a harmless ladder snake and not a poisonous one. But it was a very long young one, with it’s beautiful markings still very clear.
Once again, Pam was over by our well with a couple of workmen, when she felt something across her feet. Thinking it was one of the many cables around there, but then it moved! Well, by all accounts she leaped so high she landed the other side of the well, with the workmen laughing LOL! I wish I were there to have seen that.
You will often see Pam walking along frantically waving her arms and shouting at wasps to go away. But that is understandable, as she is severely allergic to their sting.
So, after snakes, wasps, cicadas and grasshoppers, what will our Spanish adventure throw at us next?
